October 5, 2023, at Nalen. With the 100-year celebration of Stockholm City Hall and Elekta, Autoliv, Atlas Copco, Embracer Games Archives, Jameson (Ireland) and Bosch (Germany).
We talked about the importance of Sweden's image for Swedish companies abroad, with the Swedish Institute, Business Sweden, and the Swedish Embassy in Berlin.
And Gerald Engström shared his entrepreneurial journey with Systemair.

In 1923, Stockholm City Hall was inaugurated with pomp and circumstance. This year, the centennial is being celebrated with a book, exhibitions, activities, open house, and more. But why celebrate a building, no matter how grand it may be? Svante Hådell, protocol chief at the City of Stockholm and general for the City Hall 100-year anniversary, explains.
Three B2B companies, all of which have recently celebrated anniversaries, share how they have taken the opportunity to use the anniversaries to strengthen their organization and brand: Elekta (50 years), Autoliv (70 years) and Atlas Copco (150 years). Go straight to the speakers: Mattias Thorsson, Elekta; Gabriella Etemad, Autoliv; Linda Ekwall, Atlas Copco
Since 1780, Jameson whiskey has been made in Ireland. Carol Quinn, archivist at the owning company Irish Distillers, keeps that history alive for the benefit of the brand. She also helps product developers when completely new products are created – inspired by the past.
The industrial company Bosch was started by Robert Bosch in 1886 in a small factory with two workers. The company's own historian Dietrich Kuhlgatz knows all about how the company has grown and gone through both successes and setbacks – and he makes sure to keep the history alive internally.
The Swedish gaming giant Embracer started an archive near its headquarters in Karlstad in 2022 – but not for its own history, rather to preserve the entire industry's history, including competing products. Why does a single company take on such industry responsibility? And how do you create an archive from scratch? Archive manager David Boström explains.
Swedish companies (sometimes) build their brands on their "Swedishness." How does the general image of Sweden then affect the success of Swedish companies abroad? This was discussed by Sofia Bard, Swedish Institute; Katarina Szécsi Åsbrink, Swedish Embassy in Berlin; and Lotta Loosme, Business Sweden.
From the small town of Skinnskatteberg, Gerald Engström has since 1974 grown the ventilation company Systemair into a global giant. Gerald shared his journey with Systemair, to today's investment company Färna Invest.
HMS23 was held (again) at Nalen in Stockholm, on October 2, 2023. A full day where companies shared their use of history. Photographer Stina Stjernkvist photographed the entire day. Here is a selection of her pictures.
