Johan August Gripenstedt was a passionate spirit in a fragile body. With him began the Swedish prosperity miracle. Centrum för Näringslivshistoria now publishes the book about his work in a new edition.
As Swedish Minister of Finance in the mid-19th century, Gripenstedt unleashed the country's "dormant forces." He found financing for the railways, realized free trade, dismantled guilds and estates, and safeguarded peace. He advocated a pragmatic "middle way" in politics and asserted that poor Sweden would become one of the richest countries in the world.
Per T Ohlsson's 1994 biography is now published in a new, revised edition by Centrum för Näringslivshistoria.
