For nearly two years, the Centre for Business History has been working with the metal company Boliden. Just in time for the company's 100th anniversary, a box with four magazines was produced that tells the company's exciting history. The magazines have now been nominated for this year's Publishing Prize.
Boliden has its roots in what was called Centralgruppens Emissionsbolag, which was formed already in 1915. In 1924, a large gold deposit was discovered just outside Bjurliden in Västerbotten. This marked the start of what today is the company Boliden, which now has mining and smelting operations at ten locations in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Ireland.
As a corporate group, Boliden will celebrate 100 years in 2024, but each operation and location also has its own exciting history. This was the starting point when the Centre for Business History in 2022 was tasked with conducting research and finding a suitable format to tell the company's story. Extensive work began, including workshops held with several employees at all ten operating sites. These were carried out in collaboration with the event company Utsikt, which was commissioned to organize the 100-year celebration for the employees.
The result was four magazines, each telling a part of the company's history, while describing the different parts of the business and also focusing on various themes such as technological development and safety. The magazines have since been translated into Norwegian, Finnish, and English to be distributed to all employees during the anniversary year.
