  5. Book release 12 Sep: “Ericsson and China – A Lasting Relationship”

Welcome to seminar and launch 12 Sep at the Stockolm School of Economics for the new book Ericsson and China – A Lasting Relationship (Business History Publishing, 2018). Ericsson veterans Lars A Stålberg and Per-Olof Björk share story and their experiences of how the telecom company Ericsson has cultivated its relationship with China for over 125 years. At the seminar, you will also meet several other China experts and researchers.

Ericsson established contacts with China already in 1892, delivering their first products only two years later. This means that Ericsson's relationship with China spans over 125 years. Few other global companies - or nations, for that matter - have a longer history with China. And this in an industry known for rapid technological development and many company mergers.

Besök av kinesisk delegation hos Ericsson i Stockholm – redan 1906.
I Ericssons gästbok från tidigt 1900-tal finns namnteckningarna från den kinesisk delegation som besökte 1905.

Ericsson veterans Lars A Stålberg and Per-Olof Björk have for over 30 years worked with and in China. Based on their experiences, complemented with research into the Ericsson corporate archives, they’ve written ”Ericsson and China – A Lasting Relationship”, a new book from Business History Publishing, the publishing arm of the Centre for Business History in Stockholm..

The book is now launched with a topical seminar at the Stockholm School of Economics:

  • Time: 12 Sep, 3.30pm – 5.30pm, followed by mingle
  • Location: Stockholm School of Economics, lecture room Ragnar (entrance from main door on Sveavägen 65)
  • Language: Swedish. (The book, however, is written in English.)

You’ll hear presentations from:

  • Johan Björksten, entrepreneur and China-expert: “Doing business in the Wild East”.
  • Lars A Stålberg and Per-Olof Björk, authors of the book and Ericsson veterans, about their experiences from working ”on-the-ground” in China for Ericsson.
  • Börje Ljunggren, former Swedish ambassador to China: “40 years of reform and opening, (1978 – 2018) – The China of Deng and Xi”.

With introductory remarks from:

  • Lars Ågren, Executive Director, Stockholm School of Economics.
  • Ulf Pehrsson, vice president, Government & Industry Relations, Ericsson.

Anders Sjöman from the Centre for Business History and the book’s editor will lead the conversations.

After the seminar follows a mingle, with drinks and light snacks, in the school’s atrium.

The seminar, which will be in Swedish only, is free but there is limited space, so please sign up before hand here.
