Näringslivsarkiv i Norrland are awarded the Business History Prize 2025 for their work in preserving and making accessible the history of the business community in Norrland. The award from the Centre for Business History comes with a prize sum of 100,000 SEK.
The Business History Award is presented by the Centre for Business History to the individual(s) who have made lasting contributions to highlight Swedish business history and showcase the Swedish companies' contributions to the common societal development. This year, the award is being given for the sixth time, and many qualified candidates were nominated during this year's nomination period.
After careful deliberations, the jury has agreed to award this year's prize to the nonprofit archive organization Näringslivsarkiv i Norrland, which preserves and provides access to archives from companies and industries in Norrland.
The jury's motivation reads:
Näringslivsarkiv i Norrland is awarded the Business History Award 2025 for its skilled and versatile work in preserving and making accessible the rich history of Norrland’s business sector. With modest means but great dedication, they secure an invaluable knowledge source for researchers and the public. The archive brings to life the stories of the people and companies that have shaped Norrland and serves as an exemplary demonstration of how active archival work can strengthen regional identity and increase understanding of the role of business in societal development.
Lennart Francke, chairman of the jury for the Business History Award, commented on the choice:
"An important and exciting part of Swedish business history is regional. Sometimes it is collected and presented in the best possible way by local archivists and storytellers. That is the case with Business Archives in Norrland, this year’s recipient of the Business History Award. We in the jury are pleased to use the award to highlight that work, which creates impressive results without excessive resources."
Daniel Nordin, long-time head of Näringslivsarkiv i Norrland, will accept the award together with colleagues, on October 2nd at this year's History Marketing Summit. They will then also give the now traditional award winner lecture.
