The first collaboration with Lars came in connection with the name change from Stockholms Företagsminnen to Centrum för Näringslivshistoria in 2006. We needed a new logo and also a graphic program that signaled that we were ramping up operations to reach new stakeholders with a modern appeal. Lars got to work and the result was the logo that, in a revised form, is still used today. There was a playful element in the original where the time marker pulsated and a vertical line ran over a barcode that itself symbolized the word history.
Lars quickly developed warm feelings for our operations. And when we expanded the premises, it was natural to consider their appearance and how they could be used to reflect the material behind the archive doors. Lars returned with his usual elegant presentations that presented a coherent concept in color and material choices. So, walls and doors were given a uniform coloring taken from the new logo's red and gray shades. In public spaces, carefully selected objects came to coexist with exclusively produced graphic interpretations of the diversity in our archives.
Of great importance was that Lars deposited his well-organized design archive with various models of the original designs he created during his long career, often iconic in their design. There are classic telephone models, Sonab's hi-fi systems, Carlsson speakers, and, somewhat aside, a bottle design for Gamla Stans Bryggeri where he designed the triangular bottle inspired by Jan Stenbeck's fist.
Lars also advised colleagues like Karl-Arne Breger and Hans Erich to deposit material. For this, Centrum för Näringslivshistoria had long collections of design processes and products from other depositing member companies. All this could now be brought together. When the archive spaces, which were also designed and colored by Lars, were completed, the design archive was inaugurated by then Minister of Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.
Seeing Lars work up close confirms the saying that characterized his work: Creativity is intelligence having fun!
