A friend of our organization has passed away. Tomas Söderberg, chairman of the Torsten Söderberg Foundation, died earlier this year at the age of 82.
The Centre for Business History has had the pleasure of carrying out several projects where Tomas engaged with his great expertise combined with humor and sharp analysis. One of the first projects carried out was the book about Svenska Karossmakare (Centre for Business History 2009), a history that Tomas himself knew inside and out. For the launch, which took place in the park outside Nobel's old dynamite factory at Vinterviken in Stockholm, he had his pride and joy transported, a rare convertible version of the Volvo PV 445.
Other projects he supported revolved around Swedish design and craftsmanship, an area close to Tomas's heart. Another is the biography of Peder Herzog (Förlaget Näringslivshistoria 2016), the forefather who immigrated from Germany and built one of his era's leading bookbinding businesses in Stockholm. We are grateful for Tomas Söderberg's commitment, his work will live on in books and other long-term projects with us at the Centre for Business History and elsewhere.
