The headline above is from an advertisement in Svenska Dagbladet on May 11, 2011, for People of Lava Sweden. It first describes how Karl Ferdinand Braun laid the foundation for the crystal receiver, which played a crucial role in how TV history developed. Then came color TV, and after that the Internet. In 2011, according to People of Lava, it was time to combine the Internet with the TV. The ad states that their TVs are the biggest thing since color TV. One might have different opinions about that, but they were at least the first in the world to make an internet-connected TV with the Android operating system. A model (Scandinavia) of such a TV is the subject of the ad, and once you have received a unit at home, you can apparently draw a line through TV history; "The future is finally here."
The history of TV is used in the marketing as a contrast to their new product, which is the future. History becomes something old to distance oneself from. Even on the website, they emphasize the future when describing the company's history under the heading "Our history And our future". However, there is an awareness that history also has positive connotations as they highlight that "the Lava story goes back to the sixties" even though the Lava brand itself was not launched until 2001. "Innovation and experience" and "blending the modern with the traditional" is how they want to present themselves.
Today, in 2016, People of Lava continues to hand-build Scandinavia and other models of their high-quality LED and LCD TVs, as well as manufacture remote-controlled accessories like wall mounts and lifts.
