NCC builds hospitals, schools, residential buildings, roads, bridges, and much more. However, it began as pioneers in asphalt manufacturing in 1875, in a Sweden that needed modern roads as cities grew. The company was later involved in building Sweden's first motorway in the 1950s and led the development of prefabricated building elements for houses.
In 1988, today's NCC – Nordic Construction Company – was created by merging several smaller companies into one that can undertake large and complex projects across the Nordic region. The world's largest spherical building (Globen), the tunnel section of the Øresund Connection, Arlanda Express, Gardermoen Airport, and the world's longest road tunnel (Lærdal Tunnel) are just a few examples.
This development was presented in a 2 minute 45 second film at NCC's annual general meeting on May 7. The purpose was, besides increasing awareness of the company's own history, to create internal pride.
The film, produced in collaboration with the Center for Business History and filmmaker Peder Groth, can be viewed here.
