Inger researches Swedish horticultural history – the history of gardening and the gardening industry – a new research field that has taken shape over the past 15 years. It addresses questions related to the garden science field, such as entrepreneurship and business, labor, cultivation systems, plant protection, technology, and more.
Inger Olaussson earned her doctorate at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in 2014 with a dissertation on market gardens in Stockholm County from 1900-1950, and has since researched plant protection in gardening from a historical perspective. As a guest researcher at the Centre for Business History, she particularly wants to study how and why the industry shifted from being male-dominated, where there were barely any training opportunities for the women interested in pursuing the profession, to instead being dominated by women. We warmly welcome Inger to CfN!
