It started as a simple hawker's stall on Nybrogatan in Stockholm, which grew into a distinguished delicatessen. Classic exclusives included Russian caviar and foie gras. Today, the company has developed into a leading Nordic trading house with high-quality food and beverages in its assortment.
What not many know is that Arvid Nordquist was also the company that launched Nike in Sweden. This happened during a period in the 1970s when they wanted to diversify their business. Another curiosity is that Arvid Nordquist ran its own frog farm on Birger Jarlsgatan in Stockholm to cater to Stockholmers' passion for fresh frog legs. The purpose of the website is to tell and make accessible Arvid Nordquist's exciting history in a popular historical way and to show the role the company has played in Swedish history.
– Arvid Nordquist has made a clear mark in the history of Swedish retail. The company, which is still a family business, has been pioneering in several areas, including by offering at the time exotic products and quality declaring coffee, says Alexander Husebye, CEO of the Centre for Business History.
The website is aimed at both a history-interested general public as well as the company's customers and suppliers and employees. For schools and researchers, there is also interesting material to be found among the 35 historical articles, almost 800 pictures, and 12 films that have been digitized. The material is easy to find thanks to the Swedish-developed search function SiteSeeker.
