Book news: The ICA retailer – entrepreneur, pillar, bearer of ideas

Today there are more than a thousand: the ICA shopkeepers. Who are they, and what drives them? And what did the path look like from the country store owner in a knit cap to today's grocery entrepreneurs? Publisher Anders Johnson portrays them and their work in the book ICA-handlaren.

The ICA Group, which today is one of Northern Europe's major trading companies, has throughout its development been built on a fundamental idea: independent retailers in cooperation. A successful cooperative, which started as a vision of a charismatic entrepreneur: Hakon Swenson from Västerås.

Anders Johnson is an author focused on Swedish business history and has written several books including on the history of commerce. In 2010, he received the Swedish Business Award in memory of Curt Nicolin.

The ICA Dealer is published by the Center for Business History on Friday, September 28. The book is published in collaboration with the ICA Retailers Association.
