Staten och kapitalet was first published in 1998. The book analyzes the relationship between the financial market, its actors, and the state. It also provides an overall picture of the development of the Swedish financial system in general, with particular emphasis on the 20th century.
In a new foreword, the author Mats Larsson looks at what has happened since then. He describes the development trends that have affected the financial system from the end of the last century until today, and the consequences this has had for the state's role in the financial market.
