  5. The Center for Business History establishes itself in Uppsala

The archival organization Företagens historia in Uppsala, which since 2000 has taken care of historical material on behalf of Uppsala-based companies, has since the turn of the year been a part of the Centre for Business History. After supporting the business on a consultancy basis since 2018, we are pleased to fully take over the commercial part of the business.

On January 1, 2020, we at Centre for Business History took over the commercial operations that the archive organization Företagens historia in Uppsala has run since 2000. With this, we completely take over the management of the archive facilities in Uppsala, including 3,600 shelf meters of archival material from companies operating in Uppsala County, as well as a number of new clients, primarily in the field of life science.

During 2018 and 2019, we have collaborated with the operation on a consultancy basis. During this time, we have built our expertise about Uppsala's history and familiarized ourselves with the companies that are members and clients in Uppsala. We now look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with even more Uppsala companies to preserve and tell their stories, as we can now offer depot solutions on site in Uppsala.

– Now we have the opportunity to get closer to the exciting and thriving business community in Uppsala and collaborate with more companies on issues such as long-term preservation and history marketing, says Alexander Husebye, CEO of Centre for Business History.

While the commercial operation, with archival solutions and storytelling assignments, is incorporated into the Centre for Business History's organization, the non-profit association Företagens historia in Uppsala remains. Its responsibility is to continue taking care of, and also receiving, so-called ownerless archival material from the business community in Uppsala County. Such material mainly comes from operations and companies that have ceased to exist. Here, school activities and research activities will also be conducted in close cooperation with the Centre for Business History.
