On www.handelnshistoria.se, the history of Swedish trade is depicted – from the 13th century up to the present day. The website contains up to 200 articles and a large number of films. Among other things, there are 21 shorter informative yet entertaining films where the topics are presented by the long-time employee of Centrum för Näringslivshistoria, Edward Blom.
– With www.handelnshistoria.se, we want to spread knowledge about the history of trade, its development and changing conditions to the general public, schools, students, and employees within trade. Others who need knowledge and information about trade – out of pure interest or in their profession – also benefit from the website, says Alexander Husebye, CEO of Centrum för Näringslivshistoria.
The website is divided into various themes such as the geography of trade, legislation and organizations, trade epochs and dates, culture, marketing, profiles, and trading companies. In addition to articles and Edward Blom's films, there are also around 30 informational films, commercials, a timeline, and a trade glossary on the site. A number of individual larger trading companies' histories are also presented. The idea is that over time, these will be supplemented with more and more companies.
The content on the website is largely based on the solid archive material deposited at Centrum för Näringslivshistoria. CfN currently holds more than five shelf-miles of documents, photographs, films, and objects. A large number of researchers, archivists, and journalists have also contributed to the website with articles within their areas of expertise.
The project has been funded by grants from the Hakon Swenson Foundation and the Trade Development Council (HUR). Individual member companies have also contributed.
